Prior to joining us Technology Director, George Wisner was an advanced technology consultant to Barker Mohandas based on his past engineering experience as Manager of Drives Engineering worldwide for Otis Elevator from 1995-1999. Prior to 1995 he was Manager of Electronic Systems at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC). His elevator-related experience includes the following areas:

• 200 kW peak AC regenerative drives for high-speed, high-rise elevators
• Feasibility of cost-effective regenerative AC drives for low-rise elevators
• Convertor technology to modernize existing DC gearless machines
• Inverter technology providing high AC line power factor and low EMI
• Drive self-commissioning software for cost-effective tuning on site
• Digital processing serving as basis for next-generation elevator drives

George was instrumental in developing highly reliable and "green" power electronics that drive Otis AC elevators, including Otis' highest speed and rise elevators, and innovatively adapting technologies for mass-market and existing elevators. Along with Rick Barker, he was a member of Otis' worldwide product strategy group nicknamed "gang green", who set the course to improve system efficiency, power factor, etc. George's work for us involves the evaluation of new drives and assisting consulting electrical engineers when thyristor/SCR drives are used for elevator modernization. Work for other clients includes spread spectrum technology, and power conversion systems for microturbines and fuel cell power generation. His prior experience with UTRC included support to both Carrier and Otis in resonant link inverters, switched reluctance motors, high-speed synchronous and brushless DC motors, energy storage, active noise control, active magnetic bearings, magnetic suspension, low EMI/high power factor correction, and lasers. Mr. Wisner holds a BSEE from the University of Connecticut, is a member of IEEE, and has 10 published papers and 14 patents. He has also received numerous awards for his contributions to education, including 20 years of voluntary leadership for the Connecticut Science Fair, of which he is now Chairman.
